About Sala VOL

Sala VOL is a roughly 150-capacity concert room in Barcelona’s Poblenou district, operating from the former BeGood club at Carrer de Sancho d’Àvila 78. Its defining feature is proximity: a narrow, black-walled rectangle with the bar near the entrance and the stage at the far end, putting performers and crowd in one continuous line of sight. This is a room for shows felt at close range, with a small stage and a proper club-system setup built into the space.

BeGood became VOL

The room began as BeGood in 1992, making it one of Poblenou’s longer-running club spaces. In autumn 2016, the cultural cooperative L’Afluent took charge, led by Miquel Cabal, Sergi Egea and Artur Estrada, whose earlier work included 15 years running Barcelona’s Heliogàbal. Their initial weekend brought Nueva Vulcano, Polseguera and Sot to the room on October 15 and 16, 2016, followed by Dutch experimental-hardcore group The Ex the next day.

The team reshaped the former club by removing a mezzanine, repainting the room black and updating the electrical installation. A 2018 rename turned BeGood into VOL, a title drawn from the Catalan word for flight. Sonny & The Sunsets played the first bill under the VOL name; a power failure cut that initial performance short, and the show returned 15 days later as the final date of the band’s Spanish tour. Pandemic closures then interrupted the room’s work, before La Ludwig Band led its December 12 reopening concert.

The room today

VOL’s cooperative management says its artistic direction seeks music outside the commercial circuit, framed by a code of respect and equality. The resulting program leans toward indie, alternative rock, pop, folk, electronic music and abrasive crossovers, with local acts sharing bills with touring international artists. Inside, expect a standing-room floor, the bar immediately to the right of the entrance, and a 5m-by-4m stage at the rear. The in-house system includes TW Audio speakers and subs, four Turbosound monitors, DJ equipment and projection capability.
