About Sala Apolo

Sala Apolo is a 1,000-plus-capacity concert venue and nightclub in Barcelona’s Paral·lel district. Its distinguishing feature comes before the first note: the building began life as the Autopark, an indoor amusement park founded in 1935. That history gives the room an unusually layered identity—part dance hall, part club, part live-music stop—with concerts and late sessions sharing the same long-running floor.

An amusement park learned to dance

José Vallés Rovira opened Autopark in late 1935, bringing attractions such as a ghost train and automated-doll museum indoors. The Spanish Civil War interrupted the project; after the war, its space became the Sala de Fiestas Apolo, inaugurated in summer 1943 with the Apolo orchestra. The venue’s dance-hall era included ballroom culture, bingo, roller skating and nightclub use before the present concert-and-club format took hold.

A sharp programming turn arrived in 1991, when Apolo presented its first concert after decades focused on dancing. Three years later, it hosted the first edition of Sónar, linking the room closely with Barcelona’s electronic-music surge. The result is a venue whose club pedigree remains central even on a guitar-band bill: its history is built around a dancefloor that repeatedly changed purpose without losing motion.

The room today

Apolo books concerts, club nights, series and other music events throughout the week, with a broad slate spanning rock, pop, indie, house, techno, disco, reggae, hip-hop, trap and reggaeton. The building has two principal rooms, Sala Apolo and La (2), plus La (3), whose outdoor area hosts acoustic events, and CINC, an indoor bar for a breather between sets. Expect a standing, social concert experience with multiple spaces available across the venue.
