About Jamboree
Jamboree is a 220-capacity jazz room beneath Plaça Reial in Barcelona, built around a vaulted, cave-shaped Sala 1. That setting has carried the same club name through a 1968 shutdown, a 1992 rebirth and today’s split personality: early live sets, then DJ-led dance music. The distinguishing detail lies in the scale: a 257-square-metre basement designed for close-range listening and a compressed, clubby crowd.
A jazz cellar, twice opened
At the start of 1960, entrepreneur Joan Rosselló converted the Bar Brindis at 17 Plaça Reial into a jazz cellar, naming it Jamboree at critic Javier Coma’s suggestion; it hosted the Jubilée Jazz Club’s sessions. The first chapter ran until 1968. Lawyer Javier Cámara bought and reopened the space during Barcelona’s Olympic year, 1992, and Mas i Mas acquired it in May 1993.
That transition produced a recorded document: Brad Mehldau, Perico Sambeat, Mario Rossy and Jordi Rossy played the club on May 10, 1993, material issued as New York–Barcelona Crossing, Volume 1. The release preserves an early Mehldau performance in the room’s close quarters.
The room now
Jamboree programs jazz as its core, expanding into blues, soul, funk and urban music; its schedule also moves into hip-hop, R&B and DJ dance sessions. Artists can submit performance proposals through the venue’s form, while concert ticket sales are handled through the Mas i Mas contact route. Sala 1 means a vaulted basement with 220-person standing capacity and a sound system renewed in 2024. Accessibility deserves advance thought: the official FAQ lists Sala 1 without adapted access; Rooms 2 and 3 have it.
