Sala Upload

Sala Upload is Barcelona’s 500-capacity concert room and club inside Poble Espanyol. Its distinguishing feature is the three-level auditorium: a checkerboard-tile floor and stepped stalls pull the audience close to the stage, even when the bill has a full club charge. Concert nights and late sessions use the same room, creating a direct, communal feel in a venue that fits a crowd without becoming anonymous.

A room given a new run

Upload took its current name in 2012. Music journalist Nando Cruz places the regular concert programme in 2014, when the three current proprietors began organizing shows at Poble Espanyol. Time Out identifies the trio as David Marzo, Jordi Aizcorbe and Víctor Asensio, who took charge when the space had limited activity. Their version of the room focused early attention on electric-guitar music: pop, rock and psychedelia, alongside DJs.

At the January 31–February 1, 2025 anniversary, Upload presented 15 artists across two nights. The Mystery Lights headed the second night, while Aiko el Grupo, Diamante Negro and Sandré appeared on the first; the birthday format placed DJs alongside bands and treated the room as a small festival.

By the same account, the hall hosted about 300 groups and 100 DJs each year in its first decade of established programming.

How Upload works now

Upload’s current model is co-production with independent promoters and programmers, supporting bills that move from new punk and garage through cult rock, experimental electronics and dance music. The official calendar separates concert and club listings, reinforcing that split use. A professional technical crew runs a Funktion-One sound system. For a showgoer, the practical advantage comes from the three-level stalls: raised sections retain closeness to the stage while giving the room several viewing elevations above the checkerboard floor.
