Sala Luz de Gas

Sala Luz de Gas is a 750-capacity concert room and club in Barcelona’s Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district. Its distinguishing feature is the setting: a theatre-format main hall shaped by the site’s former life as the Belle Époque cabaret, now paired with a cocktail bar and adjoining room. The result is a show space with formal old-room proportions and a nightlife pulse, suited to concerts that benefit from a close, indoor crowd.

Cinema, cabaret, then a new stage

The address began as Cine Aristos, which opened on December 17, 1943. It became Teatre Moratín in 1967, returned to cinema use in 1974, and housed the Belle Époque theatre-cabaret from 1982 until 1995. Fede Sardà and Fernando Vila then converted the site into Luz de Gas, opening it on September 26, 1995 with a concert by Luz Casal. That lineage explains the chandeliers, curtains and theatrical frame still associated with the room.

A major handover arrived at the end of 2024, when Sardà retired after three decades directing the venue. The incoming ownership said live music would remain central while the club broadened its stylistic and generational range. In September 2025, the new team unveiled a renovation that added updated technology, a long LED screen behind the stage, and a piano bar upstairs while retaining the room’s classical visual language.

The room today

Luz de Gas books across pop, rock, indie, electronic, folk and Latin music, with live concerts alongside club sessions and occasional comedy, theatre and private events. The current management frames its plan around maintaining live music while widening the offer, so the calendar can shift between band bills, DJs and nightlife programming. For a concertgoer, the key practical features are the theatre-style principal hall, the stage-wide LED backdrop, the cocktail bar and the separate annexed space; arrive ready for a club-scale room with a dressed-up interior.
