Sala La Paloma

Sala La Paloma is a 1,000-capacity concert and dance venue in Barcelona’s Raval, set inside a former industrial foundry. Its defining feature is the ballroom: painted ceiling canvases, gilded reliefs, a central chandelier and a raised bandstand built for orchestras give a DJ set or guitar bill an unusually theatrical frame. Booth seating runs along the dancefloor and balcony, adding a few perch options to a largely standing-room night.

A ballroom remade, closed, and returned

Three friends founded La Paloma as a dance hall in 1903 in the former Comas foundry; the venue’s own history links the site with the casting of Barcelona’s Columbus monument. Drinks supplier Jaume Daura took sole ownership in 1907, and his son Ramon drove the room’s transformation. After a Paris visit in 1915, Ramon commissioned Liceu set designer Salvador Alarma and painter Miquel Moragas for the dance-themed ceiling canvases. The room closed in 2007 after noise-regulation issues, beginning a long interruption marked by several announced returns. A New Year’s Eve opening at the end of 2022 came after 16 years shut; permanent reopening followed in 2024. The room today

La Paloma books across a wide live-and-club spectrum: electronic nights, indie and alternative concerts, Latin bills, R&B, pop, jazz and folk all fit its calendar. The venue also maintains orchestra-led social dancing, with mambo, bolero, conga, tango, cha-cha-cha and related styles in the mix. Expect a broad main floor facing the historic stage, plus booth seating at floor level and on the balcony; the ceiling, chandelier and formal ornament make sightlines upward part of the experience.
