Paral·lel 62

Paral·lel 62 is Barcelona’s municipal live-music house in a building whose story begins with an 1892 circus. Its Sala Gran holds 1,500 people for standing shows, or 933 across a seated stalls-and-balconies configuration. That change of shape is the venue’s defining advantage: one bill can land with theatre-scale focus, while another can use the open floor as a concert crowd. Club P62, its second room, holds 120 standing.

A Stage Rebuilt for New Eras

Circo Español Modelo opened here on April 16, 1892, becoming Teatro Circo Español a year later. A 1907 fire destroyed the building; within two years, Teatro Español rose in its place with room for over 1,000 people. The site later became Studio 54, followed by Scenic Barcelona, before Barcelona City Council acquired the theatre. SGAE reopened it as Arteria Paral·lel in 2010, and promoter TheProject renamed it BARTS in 2012.

BARTS closed on April 17, 2022. Its successor arrived that year as Paral·lel 62, a city-owned Casa de la Música run by the L’Afluent, Quesoni and Sala Upload cooperative partnership after a public tender. The change gave the building a civic brief alongside its concert calendar: local-sector participation, links with nearby Raval, Poble-sec and Sant Antoni, and room for emerging artists.

A Room That Adapts to the Bill

The booking approach centers music while welcoming theatre, dance, circus, family events and cultural projects. Latin, electronic, folk, rock, indie, pop, hip-hop and metal all fit its wide calendar; emerging local proposals receive a dedicated home in Club P62. For a full-scale show, Sala Gran’s removable stalls create the 1,500-person standing floor, with first- and second-level seating above; seated presentations use the 933-seat layout. A bar operates in the stalls, and the main stage measures nine metres wide by 8.5 metres deep.
