About La Capsa
La Capsa is a municipal music venue in El Prat de Llobregat, within metropolitan Barcelona, with room for 450 people standing or 150 seated. Its defining feature is working-musician infrastructure: a concert room shares the building with a professional sound studio, eight rehearsal rooms and practice classrooms. That gives a gig here the feel of a public music hub, with artists developing material in the same building as the audience gathers for a show.
Municipal origins, forced reset
La Capsa opened on June 30, 1995, at 5 Avinguda del Pare Andreu de Palma. Before the conversion, the building held a radio studio and a youth sexual-health service; the new project opened to make room for concerts and community music-making. In April 2009, construction on Metro Line 9 forced a closure. La Capsa kept operating across venues around El Prat and online, including Festival de Ritmes programming around the city that summer. A deep refurbishment followed, and the building reopened on October 10, 2014 after five years. The reset expanded rehearsal provision and made La Capsa the modern-music base of Escola d’Arts en Viu, El Prat’s arts school.
How the room works today
La Capsa books a deliberately broad contemporary programme: singer-songwriters, pop, rock, folk, jazz, electronic music, hip-hop and experimental projects all sit within its remit, while the calendar pairs emerging-showcase #Demo dates with artists including Anna Andreu and Tarta Relena. For concertgoers, the practical picture is a 5-by-8-metre stage, professional sound, video and lighting, plus a bar that runs late on Fridays and Saturdays. The venue can switch from a 150-seat presentation to a 450-person standing concert.
