About Byron Live Concerts (Llibreria Barcelona)
Byron Live Concerts operates inside Llibreria Byron, a 120-capacity room on Barcelona’s Carrer de Casanova. Its defining feature is the setting: a concert program threaded through a bookshop-café, with shelves, reading corners and a dedicated events space across a 400-square-metre premises. Live music carries its own Byron Concerts banner, yet each show happens inside a cultural venue built around books and coffee.
A jazz-club afterlife in a bookshop
Byron opened on 20 November 2020, created by the team behind Huygens Editorial after 14 years of publishing work. The project combined bookshop, café and hireable cultural space; by 2023 it also held a Cultura Viva licence for musical activity. Its sharpest musical turn arrived through the Milano Jazz Club. On 28 September 2023, Milano ended its Ronda Universitat run with a final performance by ¡Yakety Yak!, amid a rent dispute that led to the site’s conversion into an Italian restaurant. In November, Milano co-founder Ramon Larregola and Byron reached an agreement for the Milano Jazz Club name to reappear at Byron from January 2024. The move brought the former club’s Kawai piano, Canopus drum kit, red upholstered chairs and small tables to Casanova Street.
The room today
Byron Concerts says it selects local and touring artists, with a program spanning jazz and blues, classical music, flamenco, Cuban music and indie. The bookshop’s wider calendar also makes room for talks and other cultural events, so concert nights sit within a mixed-use setting. There are two performance rooms: the 40-person Brontë and the 100-person Shelley. That scale favors close-range listening, especially for trios, duos, vocal recitals and jazz sets, while the café gives the venue a built-in place to arrive early or linger after the music.
