About Sneaky Dee's
Sneaky Dee’s is a 200-capacity concert room and Tex-Mex restaurant at College and Bathurst in Toronto, with the show space set upstairs above the dining room. Its split-level identity is the draw: a gig can lead straight into late-night food downstairs, while the second floor puts emerging bands, touring acts and dance-night crowds in a compact room. The venue has operated in Toronto since 1987 and has occupied 431 College Street since 1990.
A basement start, then a reprieve
Sneaky Dee’s began in 1987 at 562 Bloor Street West, near Bathurst, as a 24-hour restaurant with live-performance space in the basement. That basement hosted the first Toronto Fringe Festival in 1989, a formative cultural event before the business shifted to 431 College Street in 1990 and placed its performance room on the second floor. The later address came under real-estate pressure in September 2020, when a 13-storey mixed-use proposal targeted 431 College and adjacent properties. In a concrete reprieve, the developer formally withdrew a later 16-storey application from the City’s July 8, 2026 community-council agenda; documents reported on July 3 said the proposal would no longer proceed. The current upstairs stage therefore carries a direct connection to Toronto’s independent music and theatre circuits.
The room today
The working format is flexible: Sneaky Dee’s takes bookings for live shows, album releases, private events and themed dance parties. Punk, metal and indie form the room’s long-running core, while current programming also reaches hip-hop, R&B, electronic and jazz. Expect a dedicated second-floor stage and sound system above the restaurant, with a tightly packed, standing-room feel at concert capacity. Recurring karaoke, trivia, emo-night and themed-party programming also shapes the weekly rhythm.
