About The Moroccan Lounge

The Moroccan Lounge is a 250-capacity standing-room venue on the edge of Downtown Los Angeles and the Arts District. Its distinguishing feature is scale: a 20-foot stage and dance-floor room put audiences close to the performers, while a separate bar/lounge offers a breather between sets. The building itself dates to 1899, giving the contemporary sound-and-light installation a setting far older than the club’s 2017 debut.

A new club in an old barroom

The Moroccan Lounge opened in September 2017, created by the team behind the Teragram Ballroom. The site had already lived several lives as a bar and restaurant, including Osso DTLA, One-Eyed Gypsy and Little Pedro’s; the venue’s own account describes the original 1899 building as a cocktail lounge before its conversion into a performance space.

Its launch supplied the clearest early snapshot of its ambitions. On September 12, 2017, Jaws of Love, the solo project of Local Natives co-founder Kelcey Ayer, headlined the soft opening with Tennis System. A week later, Canadian punk band PUP and Los Angeles quartet Dimber played the official opening, a sold-out September 19 bill. Those opening nights set the room’s club-level premise: touring and local acts presented at close range, with enough production for a full-volume set.

The room today

The calendar moves across indie and rock bills, singer-songwriter shows, pop, electronic-leaning parties and folk bookings, with age policies varying by event. Artists seeking a date submit by email with music links, social channels and local show history. Expect general-admission standing around the stage, limited booth seating in the bar area, a long bar with beer, wine and spirits, plus a café-style service window. Advanced acoustic treatment, modern lighting and an artist dressing room round out a deliberately compact setup.
