Rosa's Lounge

Rosa’s Lounge is a 100-capacity Chicago blues room in Logan Square, a compact family-run setting whose tables and bar share the performance space. Opened in 1984, it maintains a regular blues-jam tradition alongside band bills, giving a visiting listener a direct route into players who work the local circuit. Its distinguishing feature is continuity: Billy Branch, the opening-day first act, became the first signing to Rosa’s record label in 2025.

A family room with a long musical thread

Tony Mangiullo came to Chicago in 1978 after meeting Jr. Wells and Buddy Guy in Milan. He learned from South Side lounges including Theresa’s, then opened Rosa’s in 1984, naming the room for his mother, Rosa, who had followed him to Chicago. The club’s opening linked him immediately to Billy Branch, who played first that day. In July 2025, Mangiullo pushed the venue’s work beyond the stage by launching Rosa’s Lounge Records with Branch as its inaugural artist; their first single, “Begging for Change,” preceded August launch parties at the club. Those dates give the place a clear throughline: a family-operated blues room built around a working relationship that began on opening day and later moved onto vinyl.

How the room works now

Rosa’s programs Chicago-style blues first: resident artists on weekdays, visiting performers on weekends, album-release sets, and a third-Wednesday jam that welcomes performers who sign up at the stage. The room is 21-and-over, with shared tables and bar seating available first come, first served; groups of four or larger may receive reserved tables. For 9:30 p.m. shows, an 8–9 p.m. arrival secures seating, while later arrivals enter with placement based on space. Food can arrive by delivery or accompany guests from outside.
