About Reggies Rock Club

Reggies Rock Club is a 400-capacity standing room in Chicago’s South Loop, geared toward close-range concerts across rock, punk, metal, indie, hip-hop, jam and electronic music. Its defining feature is practical: a gradually sloped floor carries sightlines from the stage through the back of the room, while a lounge-style balcony offers seated views above the crowd. Murals, exposed Chicago brick and steel give the space a garage-born character without sacrificing a full bar and food service.

A record-store gamble became a club

Reggies grew out of Robby Glick’s Record Breakers, the Hoffman Estates shop he opened in 1988. Store shows, staged by moving the record racks aside, persuaded Glick that live music could become a permanent operation. He closed the suburban store on October 20, 2006 and moved toward Chicago; Reggies opened in September 2007 in a former auto bumper repair shop, combining the Rock Club with the Music Joint and the relocated record store.

The opening month supplied a clean statement of intent: Semi Precious Weapons, then a New York glam-rock group, headlined Reggies’ first show in September 2007. Early coverage described the Rock Club as a garage converted into a concert hall, with a broad floor, overhead balcony and graffiti-treated stage set into the wall. That original formula still explains the appeal: a purpose-built room attached to the social life of a bar, grill and record-store project.

The room on show night

Reggies programs a wide stylistic spread, though rock, punk and metal sit at its core alongside indie, hip-hop, jam and electronic bills. Artists and promoters seeking a date use the venue’s band-booking form; the Rock Club also operates as an event and rental space. For concertgoers, the key choices are the open, sloped main floor for a direct stage view or the balcony’s comfortable chairs for a calmer vantage point. The club’s in-house sound system, full bar and comfort-food menu make an early arrival useful.
