Dorian's

Dorian’s is a 100-capacity, 21+ music bar in Chicago’s Wicker Park, entered through its own small record shop. Listening stations and vinyl sit at the front; a dim, close-range bar and performance room wait behind them. That passage through The Record Shop gives a show its particular shape: browsing bins on North Avenue, then stepping into a compact room where the stage serves bands and vinyl selectors at intimate range.

A pop-up’s permanent second act

Dorian’s opened on September 28, 2018, converting the space used by Saved by the Max, the Saved by the Bell-themed pop-up. Zack Eastman, Steve Harris, and Derek Berry led the project with chef Brian Fisher, turning the address into a permanent restaurant, bar, record shop, and music venue inspired by 1960s jazz clubs. The name honors Dorian “Big E” Cole, a Saved by the Max employee who died in September 2017. Joe Bryl, formerly of West Town dance club Sonotheque, became programming director, bringing a record-collector’s sensibility to the room’s musical direction. The opening proposition was clear: jazz, funk, and boogie alongside drinks and dinner, with DJs and live groups sharing the bill. By October, local coverage described a large stage, listening stations, wood paneling, and Bryl occasionally playing classical jazz and downtempo records from the booth.

The room after the records

Dorian’s calendar mixes live jazz, Afro-Cuban projects, singer-songwriters, open jams, DJ nights, and happy-hour programs, matching a broader palette that reaches into soul, electronic music, rock, folk, and hip-hop. Its own listings present a 21+ schedule running Tuesday through Sunday, with free events alongside covers after 8 p.m. Expect a bar-first setup with booths and tables around the action, plus an Italian-made hi-fi system for vinyl-led nights. The scale favors proximity and listening over a distant, theater-style concert experience.
