About Color Club
Color Club is a 240-person standing-room venue on Chicago’s Elston Avenue, with rock and indie bills set within a 15,000-square-foot arts-and-events complex. The distinguishing feature is the building itself: a 1922 former fraternal meeting place that later became the home of Chicago’s Latvian Community Center and Folk Art Museum. Concerts occupy a ballroom-and-tavern setup amid studios, museum space and fabrication facilities, giving a small show the texture of a broader creative campus.
A hall with several lives
The building began in 1922 as the meeting place for Chicago’s Independent Order of Vikings. In 1958, the Latvian Community Center and Folk Art Museum took ownership, placing cultural gatherings, two ballrooms, a tavern and museum activity under one roof. The Folk Art Museum remained a visible part of the address in 2017, when Time Out described a collection of over 300 objects including jewelry, folk costumes, woodworking and weavings. Josh Dihle and Abby Monroe opened Color Club in 2021 as an arts and events space. On April 18, 2026, its monthly GREEN showcase closed the CIVL Fest community expo, following panels, workshops and music-industry resource tables; GREEN spotlights emerging performers in partnership with Columbia College.
How the room works
Color Club takes proposals for live performances alongside screenings, seminars, markets, exhibitions, classes and rehearsals, so the calendar moves across formats as readily as it moves across genres. Rock and indie form the concert core, with comedy, improv, visual art and community events also in the mix. The Ballroom holds 240 standing and includes a lobby bar, dedicated bathrooms, plus a small dressing room with stage entrance. It is reached by stairs. A smaller Tavern holds 100 standing and has its own bar, making it the more intimate option when a bill calls for close quarters.
