About Cobra Lounge
Cobra Lounge is a 300-capacity live-music bar in Chicago’s West Loop, built for close-range, general-admission shows. The room’s defining feature comes before the first band: it pairs a compact concert space with a full kitchen, cocktails, wine, guest drafts, and its All Rise beer program. That combination gives a punk or metal bill the feel of a late-night hangout, while the venue’s calendar also leaves space for indie, alternative, jazz, regional acts, and touring openers.
A club built around the underground
Cobra Lounge opened in 2006 as a Near West Side bar and music venue, with punk and metal at the center of its early identity. By 2013, the operation had added block parties, late-night programming, and bar food to its live-show model; that year, general manager Blake Dinwiddie described plans for a restaurant, bar, and brewery beside the existing venue. Construction advanced in 2014, when the kitchen paused service for the next stage of the adjacent All Rise Brewing build-out. The expansion matters because it made food and beer part of the concert experience while preserving the separate music room. In 2025, Live Music Society backed a further small-room initiative: a 50-person artist-development space intended for emerging musicians. Cobra’s story is therefore less about one breakout night than a sustained commitment to giving local and routed acts a small-scale Chicago stage.
The room on show night
Shows are usually standing-room-only, with all-ages dates on the schedule and submissions welcomed from artists who provide music links or a digital press kit; touring acts are asked for Midwest routing dates. Expect rock, punk, metal, indie, and adjacent underground bills. The main room is rectangular, with exposed joists, brick walls, oversized mirrors, and an opening into a larger auxiliary room. Arrive ready to stand, eat beforehand if desired, and use the accessible, wheelchair-friendly facility as a bar-and-show stop in one.
