About Carnivale

Carnivale in Chicago’s Fulton Market is a Latin restaurant and entertainment complex with a listed full-buyout reception capacity of 1,000. Its concert appeal comes from a format that folds dinner, cocktails and dance into the same evening: recurring samba performances play in the Rumba Lounge, with dancers positioned in the front-bar area amid the crowd. Expect a social, food-forward setting for tribute dinners, DJs and Latin dance programming, with the room itself playing a large role in the experience.

A restaurant designed for spectacle

Carnivale opened in 2005 under restaurateur and designer Jerry Kleiner, whose saturated visual approach shaped its pan-Latin restaurant format. In April 2006, Chicago Reader described the six-month-old Carnivale as Kleiner’s biggest operation, seating 420 with a staff of 150. Its first New Year’s Eve, on December 31, 2005, established the entertainment side early: stilt walkers, jugglers, costumed characters and a balloon drop filled the night. A March 2023 update added a VIP bar, banana-leaf imagery in the lounge and extra seating along the upstairs balcony, retaining the venue’s emphasis on group energy and visual impact.

The room for a night out

Carnivale books music as part of a dining and private-events operation, giving its calendar a clear Latin focus alongside pop tribute concepts and dance-led occasions. The Rumba Lounge/Main Bar sits at the entrance and includes hand-painted surfaces, French doors toward optional patio access and a large LED-lit bar. This is a roam-and-mingle room, with sightlines centered on the bar-floor action and performers instead of a distant raised stage. Full-venue events can spread across several rooms; smaller shows feel closest to a lively cocktail lounge.
