About Broken Hearts

Broken Hearts is a 459-capacity, 21-plus music bar in Chicago’s West Loop, opened by Heisler Hospitality on December 6, 2024. Its distinguishing feature is a deliberate country-and-Americana turn inside the former Nights & Weekends: the name borrows from John Prine’s “Souvenirs,” while a rear stage turns a 4,500-square-foot barroom into a late-night local-band room. The scale favors a close crowd, with pool and a photo booth sharing the floor.

A reset at Lake and Morgan

At 1009 West Lake, the current room grew from Nights & Weekends, a Heisler Hospitality project built for three years before opening in November 2021. Co-owners Kevin Heisner and Matt Eisler launched that 4,500-square-foot bar with a 60-foot bar, booths and a DJ-oriented dance floor. Its pandemic-era construction delay marked the first long pause in the address’s recent life. In 2024, weekday trade thinned while weekend customers sought dance-party energy; Nights & Weekends closed. Heisler rebuilt the room and opened Broken Hearts on December 6, moving the central bar and adding a back stage, pool table and photo booth. The new name tied the reset to Prine via “Souvenirs.” In June 2025, Broken Hearts hosted the 17th A Day In The Country festival in its first year at the bar, with Joshua Hedley heading a bill of country, bluegrass, outlaw-country and blues acts.

The room today

Local acts drive the music policy: management described the bill as mostly local, with alt-country as its north star; the venue’s own schedule centers Two Step Tuesday, Friday and Saturday live music, karaoke and country programming. The working mix leans country, Americana, folk and roots rock, with queer-country DJ nights in the weekly rotation. Expect an exposed-brick, weathered-wood interior, a stage at the back, dance-floor space around it and a pool table. Friday and Saturday music carries a $5 cover after 9 p.m.; Sunday through Wednesday pool is free.
