Bottom Lounge

Bottom Lounge is a 700-capacity Chicago concert hall with a history written into its setting: the current West Loop room reopened beneath the Lake Street elevated tracks after transit construction ended its first incarnation. The Music Hall pairs a full production setup with a bar-and-restaurant operation, private dressing rooms and a VIP viewing booth. Its calendar moves through metal, hip-hop, alternative rock, R&B, indie, pop and electronic bills, giving the room a notably wide lane for a club-scale venue.

A club rebuilt by the CTA

The story began in 1991, when Brian Elmiger and Phillip Trimble opened Lakeview Links at 3206 North Wilton as a sports bar with occasional cover bands. Once the CTA targeted the property for Brown Line work, the operators adopted the Bottom Lounge name and shifted toward original music. The CTA took the site through eminent domain in early 2005 for expansion of the Belmont and Sheffield station.

Relocation stretched beyond three years. During that interval, Elmiger and Dan Miskowicz brought in Delilah’s owner Mike Miller as a partner. The Lake Street edition opened in 2008 with additional room to operate: a restaurant, private room and 2,000-square-foot outdoor deck. Urge Overkill played the reopening show on May 2, 2008; Mudhoney followed later that month, placing the revived venue immediately back on Chicago’s rock circuit.

Inside the show

The current Music Hall centers the concert experience, with a dedicated entrance, full bar, coat check, LED and PAR lighting, hazer, production staff, dressing rooms and a VIP viewing booth. Booking, production and advance matters run through a dedicated venue contact, while the supplied schedule shows a genre-flexible program that includes heavy music, emo-adjacent rock, pop and hip-hop. The restaurant opens on show days from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., first come, first served, which makes an early arrival useful for food and a drink before the floor fills.
