About W:Halll

W:Halll is a 661-capacity cultural centre in Brussels’s Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, built around a formal auditorium whose 466 numbered stalls seats and 195 balcony seats make concerts feel theatre-scaled and sightline-conscious. Its distinguishing feature is civic breadth: the complex brings performance together with the municipality’s French-language library network and media library, giving a show night the character of a public cultural house.

A civic hall delayed, then opened with a prizewinner

The venue began as the cultural-centre wing beside Woluwe-Saint-Pierre’s town hall. Construction started in 1967 with a planned 1970 finish, then two contractor bankruptcies halted the site for months; rain entered part of the building before the roof went on. The scheme finally opened on September 18, 1975 as the Maison de la Culture et Centre de Congrès. Its inaugural concert paired American pianist Larry Graham, fresh from winning the Queen Elisabeth Competition’s audience prize, with the National Orchestra of Belgium conducted by Roger Rossel. The original plan already gathered music, books and live performance under one roof, the basis for today’s Show, Biblio and Media strands. A later renovation reshaped the former Bal 300 into today’s Fabry room in 1999.

The room today

W:Halll runs a curated cultural season while also hiring its rooms for outside events. Music programming spans beatbox, blues, chanson, classical, folk, pop and rock, alongside theatre, cinema, circus, talks and family work. The main auditorium is the choice for a fully seated concert. For a smaller-scale bill, W:Halllstation—formerly the Cabaret—holds up to 100 people and has its own bar, equipped stage and two dressing rooms. Fabry offers a different social setup: a 360-square-metre hall with parquet flooring, large curtained windows and a bar designed for crowds of up to 500.
