About Cirque Royal

Cirque Royal is Brussels’s 2,033-seat concert hall, shaped by a past few venues can claim: the 1878 building began as the city’s sole permanent circus, with basement stables for almost 110 horses. Its present setup pairs a large theatre-scale room with The Club, a 350-capacity standing space in the former stables. The combination suits touring artists who need scale while keeping the atmosphere of a central-city seated hall.

A circus rebuilt for the stage

In 1876, the Société anonyme du quartier Notre-Dame-des-Neiges began developing the neighbourhood; architect Wilhelm Kuhnen answered its interior-block plot with a regular polygonal circus. The Renz Royal Belgian Equestrian Troupe opened the hall in 1878, and films ran there between 1908 and 1914. Music-hall bills arrived in 1920. A major reset came in 1953, when architect Charles Van Nueten rebuilt the complex for a new era.

A further upheaval arrived in summer 2017. A dispute between the City and Botanique over the management concession coincided with a closure, followed by fire-safety upgrades. The hall reopened in September 2018 after roughly a year of works; the project brought a new stage and seats alongside technical and safety improvements.

A broad-billed room

Today, Cirque Royal books a deliberately wide bill: folk, indie, alternative, pop, hip-hop, jazz, R&B and classical acts share the calendar with stand-up, dance, opera and ballet. Current listings include Satsang, Slimane, Jacob Collier and Studio Ghibli in Concert, making this a flexible choice for seated, song-focused sets and presentation-scale productions. The main room holds 2,033 in theatre setup; The Club offers 350 standing or 180 seated, and hosts showcases, album launches, residencies and smaller concerts.
