About Valhalla

Valhalla is a roughly 200-capacity, 21+ live-music bar in Austin’s Red River Cultural District, built for close-range sets and post-show hanging around a circular bar. The room occupies the former Room 710 site, an address used for bars and clubs since 1999, and carries pool, pinball, foosball, and air hockey alongside its compact stage. Its distinction is that blend: a neighborhood-bar games room that also works as a small, late-night showcase stop during SXSW.

A Room 710 reset—and an uncertain next chapter

The building had bar-and-club use from 1999, with Room 710 among its operators. Valhalla arrived as its successor in 2009, with Elysium proprietor John Wickham at the helm; the room was conceived as a rock & roll lounge with games anchoring its hangout character. Seth Levy later told the Austin Chronicle that he opened the club with Wickham in 2010, placing the handoff across the 2009–10 turn.

The consequential date now is October 2025, when the two-story building entered the sales market. In May 2026, Levy said the Valhalla team had received an offer to buy the property but lacked the purchase money; he hoped a buyer would renew the venue’s lease. That makes the future conditional, even as the club continues its regular schedule in a Red River district shaped by mounting downtown property costs.

How a show lands

Valhalla books bills weighted toward local and touring rock, punk, indie, and metal, while its current calendar also reaches into alternative, folk, pop, Latin, and electronic music. The club serves as an SXSW showcase venue and has appeared in Red River Cultural District Free Week and Hot Summer Nights programs. Expect a 21+ standing-room environment, a compact performance area, and the circular bar as the social center; games sit upstairs, giving the room an easy between-set change of scene.
