Sean & Dolly's

Sean & Dolly’s is a 130-capacity basement venue in Sydney’s Kings Cross, built around live sets, cocktails and a deliberately close-range room. Its distinguishing feature is a full performance setup scaled for a small crowd: a 16-channel Nexo PA, three monitor sends, in-house engineer and a stage sized for four musicians plus a DJ. The result suits shows where the players and audience occupy the same immediate space.

A new room with a working-musician focus

Sean & Dolly’s opened in March 2025 as a basement live-music cocktail bar led by musician and bandleader Sean Mackenzie and hospitality operator, DJ and mixologist Dolly Kadek Pops. By August 2025, the City of Sydney was listing its Monday Industry Night, a series aimed at hospitality and music workers that ran through October; it captured the founders’ pitch for the room as a place where local players could convene after the weekend’s shifts.

The programming has kept that musician-first premise visible. Mackenzie leads the house band from the keys, with rotating guests and emerging performers joining bills that move between jazz, funk, soul, blues and late-night jams. That is a useful clue for audiences: the venue’s character comes from changing line-ups and participatory sessions, alongside ticketed band nights.

The room today

Sean & Dolly’s books artists through an enquiry process and runs recurring entry points for performers, including Sydney Emerging Artists Tuesday, which offers 30-minute slots across genres, plus Wednesday jam nights. Expect jazz, blues, funk, soul, rock and singer-songwriter material alongside DJs and disco events. The basement has a small stage, a DJ position at the rear of the main room, a full bar and kitchen, plus recording-ready multitrack audio capability—useful for acts treating a show as content as well as a gig.
