Liberty Hall

Liberty Hall is a 1,200-capacity live venue in Sydney’s Moore Park, opposite Hordern Pavilion in the Entertainment Quarter. Its distinguishing feature is a past that runs through television production and several music-room identities: the present venue occupies a former Fox Studios and Channel [V] broadcast space, then The Forum, The Hi-Fi and Max Watt’s. Today, Mary’s Group uses the building for touring shows, club nights and performance-led events.

A room with several lives

Building 220 began as part of Fox Studios, later hosting live broadcasts and tapings for Channel [V], before becoming The Forum during the 2000s. The site entered its Hi-Fi chapter in 2012, when the three-city chain opened there after its founders spent eight years seeking a Sydney location; the operation changed hands in 2015, joining the Max Watt’s group.

A further reset arrived in July 2022, when Mary’s Group announced its acquisition of the 1,200-capacity Max Watt’s space. Co-owners Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham planned a multi-level venue for local, domestic and international touring artists alongside club programming, with Liberty Hall opening later that year. Its first stretch set an expansive brief: a sold-out Moodymann show and an intimate last-minute performance by The Killers opened the new era.

The room today

Expect a deliberately wide booking policy: Liberty Hall presents touring acts and club nights across rock, electronic music, hip-hop, pop, folk and heavier bills, while also leaving space for art and performance. The 500-square-metre open-plan room runs across two floors, with a 50-square-metre raised stage, mezzanine access, four greenrooms and three bars. Layouts shift with each event, making the space suited to standing gigs, dance-floor nights and hybrid presentations.
