About Crowbar

Crowbar in Sydney’s Leichhardt is a 550-capacity live-music pub whose split personality gives a night real range: a substantial concert room behind a 300-capacity front bar with its own small stage, pool table and pinball. It opened in 2018 as a Sydney extension of the Crowbar operation established in Brisbane in 2012, bringing an independent stop to the East Coast touring circuit. The venue says it hosts about 800 bands each year.

A pub remade for the touring circuit

Crowbar arrived at 345 Parramatta Road in 2018, taking over the site associated with the Bald Faced Stag. Founders Nathan Trad and Tyla Dombrovski framed the Leichhardt room as a second touring stage for acts moving through the Crowbar network; early reporting put the band room at up to 550 people and singled out its sightlines. That scale remains central to the pitch: an independent room able to give emerging acts, national tours, release parties and international visitors a shared bill.

Its founders’ next move sharpened the broader story. In October 2024, Trad and Dombrovski took on Brisbane’s recently closed Zoo, reopening the Fortitude Valley space under the Crowbar name while the Sydney branch continued trading. For Leichhardt audiences, that connection means a venue conceived from the start as part of a practical east-coast circuit, with local bills sharing the same infrastructure as touring acts.

Standing room, side spaces and an open bill

Crowbar takes gig enquiries directly from bands, agents and promoters, and its programming runs from metal, punk and rock through hip-hop, Latin, indie, folk and pop. Shows in the venue room are standing unless an event specifies another format. The main room is advertised at 500 capacity by the venue and 550 by its industry association listing; the front bar holds 300, while the patio and dog-friendly beer garden create breathing room between sets. Wheelchair access covers the front bar, venue and patio, with an accessible gender-neutral bathroom outside.
