Brooklyn Bowl in New York City

About Brooklyn Bowl

Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, New York City, holds 965 concertgoers, with a live stage sharing a 23,000-square-foot former ironworks with 16 bowling lanes. That setup gives a show night unusual vantage points: the bowler’s lounge has leather Chesterfields and a view of the stage, while the floor operates as a standing concert room. Food from Blue Ribbon and two bars put dinner, drinks, bowling, and a set in the same building.

A Foundry Finds Its Second Life

The building began in 1882 as Hecla Iron Works. Peter Shapiro, the former owner of Wetlands Preserve, and longtime Wetlands general manager Charley Ryan took on the vacant industrial space with Alex and Arthur Cornfeld; their two-year conversion opened Brooklyn Bowl on July 7, 2009. The initial room paired a 600-capacity performance space with a 16-lane alley, multi-screen video system, bar, and Blue Ribbon kitchen. Construction also addressed the practical conflict at the concept’s center: keeping pins and a loud band in the same open room. Ryan told Brooklyn Paper that sound was directed upward behind a curtain wall toward the rafters, while the pinspotters were chosen for lower noise. A later marker came in 2016, when Bill Clinton made his second documented visit, following one in 2009.

Built for Shows With an Extra Lane

The calendar moves across hip-hop, rock, alternative, folk, pop, electronic, metal, and indie bookings, alongside DJ-led theme events; the programming favors a cross-genre concert-club format. Most evening access is 21+, while weekend daytime bowling welcomes all ages. For showgoers, the useful physical details are clear: 16 lanes sit inside the venue, and lounge seating beside them faces the stage. The bar, Blue Ribbon food, concert sound, and lighting make bowling a live part of a booked show night.
