About Bergy Bandroom

Bergy Bandroom in Brunswick, Melbourne, is a fully accessible 250-capacity live room built beside the Bergy Seltzer dive bar. Its distinguishing feature is practical: owners David “Frankie” Cudmore and Brodie Brümmer converted an empty warehouse into an acoustically treated performance space, with airlock doors that contain the room’s volume while keeping the rear beer garden usable. It occupies a useful middle scale between bar-stage bills and larger theatres.

A second room after the flood

Bergy Bandroom grew from a hard reset for Cudmore and Brümmer, who had worked together at Brunswick Hotel. On March 22, 2018, a driver struck a fire hydrant outside that venue; water damage flooded its stage and PA and caused ceiling collapses. The Brunswick Hotel remained shut, then announced its permanent closure in July 2019 amid landlord issues and the toll of the aftermath. Its operators had already opened the Bergy Seltzer down Sydney Road, keeping their bar and live-performance operation moving. In early 2023, Cudmore and Brümmer took over the vacant former $2 shop next door to the Seltzer and rebuilt its cavernous warehouse interior as the Bandroom. The design put a large stage, artist green room, configurable lighting and room acoustics at the centre of the conversion.

Built for the working gig calendar

Booking is geared toward a diverse roster of local and interstate artists alongside international touring acts, with live music, DJs and comedy able to run seven nights a week. That translates to a broad guitar-led and electronic-leaning calendar, including rock, alternative, pop, R&B, metal, indie and hip-hop bills. Two bars and an all-weather beer garden extend the night beyond the set; inside, the large stage, treated room and customisable lights favour full-band launches, club shows and touring packages. Late weekend hours add space for a post-headliner drink.
