Echoplex

Echoplex is a 780-capacity standing-room venue in Los Angeles’s Echo Park, located downstairs from its sister room, the Echo. Its distinguishing feature is scale with club proximity: a floor large enough for full touring bills, reached through an alley entrance and positioned below another active venue. That setup has also hosted surprise underplays, including the Rolling Stones’ April 2013 set, which compressed the room even further with an extended stage.

A downstairs expansion with a Stones-sized night

Spaceland Presents founder Mitchell Frank had opened the Echo in 2001 in the former home of a Latin music club at Sunset and Glendale. In 2006, the operation expanded downstairs into the larger Echoplex, creating the paired Echo and Echoplex complex. A 2018 L-Acoustics installation brought K2 line arrays to the room, part of a sound-system upgrade for the two venues.

On April 27, 2013, the Rolling Stones played a surprise Echoplex date described onstage as the opening show of their North American tour. The band’s extended stage cut the dance floor in half, producing an unusually close setting for a group accustomed to arena-sized crowds.

A major business change followed in May 2019, when Live Nation acquired Spaceland Presents along with Echoplex, the Echo and the Regent Theater.

The room today

Echoplex presents touring acts, local music events and DJ-led dance nights in a general-admission club format. Its calendar spans metal, alternative and indie rock alongside hip-hop, R&B, pop and electronic bookings. Inside, expect a wide semicircular dance floor, a full bar and an outdoor patio. The K2 system was designed for broad coverage across the room, giving listeners flexibility beyond the stage-front crush; stage-forward placement remains the clearest choice for direct viewing.
