About The Victoria Dalston
The Victoria Dalston is a roughly 150-capacity standing venue inside a mid-nineteenth-century Victorian pub in London. Its distinction sits behind a secret bookcase: a separate music room that turns the pub into a compact show space for close-range sets. The room has hosted bands since 1985, while the front bar retains a bright 1950s island servery at the centre of the building. For a giggoer, that means a proper pub entrance, then a swift change of scale once the room fills.
A pub, then a relaunch
The building began as a mid-nineteenth-century urban public house on Queensbridge Road, with its stock-brick exterior, corniced parapet and sash-windowed upper floor still contributing to the Dalston Lane West conservation area. Live music arrived in the back room in 1985, establishing the feature that shapes the venue’s present identity. Jaguar Shoes took over the pub in May 2015. That spring, the collective and Ben Heath, formerly of Shoreditch club Catch, relaunched the music space independently from the pub and built a programme around live shows and club nights with promoters including Bird On The Wire, Eat Your Own Ears, Upset the Rhythm and DHP. The change gave the room a dedicated events direction while keeping the public-house setting intact.
What the room offers now
Expect an eclectic grassroots bill: indie, rock and alternative form the clearest through-line, alongside metal, pop, R&B, folk and occasional classical programming. Jaguar Shoes describes its wider operation as a platform for live music and DJs, and The Victoria’s past bills include Dry Cleaning, Nova Twins, Fat White Family, John Maus and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. The concealed, standing music room creates an intimate show format; the pub side supplies a 1950s bar island, cocktails, locally brewed craft beer and an outdoor seating area for the interval between doors and stage time.
