About The Cause
The Cause is a 1,050-capacity electronic-music club in London’s Royal Docks, where five indoor rooms and a large outdoor area distribute a crowd across markedly different scales. The venue’s current form grew around a self-built party culture, yet its layout can carry a full-venue rush: room capacities range from 60 to 1,000. For a showgoer, the practical draw is movement—DJ sets, live electronics and open-air intervals can sit within one ticket.
A garage with an expiry date
The first Cause opened in an empty car-repair garage on Ashley Road in Tottenham Hale. Stuart Glen and Eugene Wild got the keys in January 2018; on April 25, Adam Shelton and Voigtmann played opening night. The founders fashioned its bar, toilets and caged DJ booth from scavenged metal and second-hand floorboards, and friends built a Core sound system.
The place had been planned as a temporary project, and residential development closed that chapter. In November 2021, the team announced a New Year’s Eve-to-New Year’s Day farewell; RA reported that the original venue had raised over £150,000 for charity since 2018.
Dock Road gave the operation its next shape. After an 18-month soft launch, The Cause fully opened its five-room “2.0” site in January 2024, with a large outdoor area and sound and lighting systems supplied by Sensory Studio, Martin Audio and Noise Control Audio.
Five rooms, one roaming crowd
Programming follows an underground, promoter-led electronic policy, with house and techno at its centre alongside live and left-field bookings; the official listings include Factory Floor live, Lady Starlight live, Paranoid London live and long DJ sets. The room plan favours choice: five indoor zones, an outdoor courtyard, bars, and a pair of first-floor rooms. A working lift is currently unavailable, a useful detail for access planning. For bigger dates, the outdoor area shifts the emphasis toward festival-style circulation.
