About Prince of Peckham

Prince of Peckham is a Peckham, London, pub-and-music venue whose spaces hold up to 330 guests in total. Its concertgoing advantage is the building’s division of labour: a main bar at street level, the basement Shrine speakeasy, and an upstairs Music Room with its own bar and DJ booth. A show here plays closer to a room-specific party than a conventional single-hall gig.

A corner pub remade for Peckham

The building began as the Clayton Arms, with a history reaching at least to 1867. It was ransacked during the 2011 riots and closed in 2013; a short 2015 turn as the Dolls House followed, then a 2016 return to the Clayton Arms name. Those rapid changes give the current venue a sharper origin story than a standard pub rebrand.

Clement Ogbonnaya, raised in south London, took on the site and opened Prince of Peckham in May 2017. Trade reporting fixed the public launch at Thursday, May 18, 2017, replacing the Clayton Arms; Ogbonnaya framed the project as a pub shaped by the community around it. The name draws on Lee “The Peckham Prince” Stanley, a character from the 1990s television series Desmond’s.

The room today

Prince of Peckham runs public music nights alongside private events, with group bookings accepted from six people upward. The programme leans toward electronic music, R&B and hip-hop, with DJ-led bills central to its identity. For a concert, the Music Room is the key space: it holds 80–90 standing or 32 seated, has a dedicated bar and built-in DJ booth, and sits on the first floor. The venue’s multi-room plan suits a social night where drinks, dancing and the set occupy the same frame.
