About Colours Hoxton

Colours Hoxton is a 300-capacity live-music venue and multi-arts bar in London’s Hoxton Square. Its core performance space, the Live Room, puts a raised stage, private bar and full lighting-and-sound rig beneath the Colour Trap: an LED ceiling installation that responds to the music. The result suits shows where a compact crowd, bright visual treatment and a club-scale PA are part of the point, while the adjoining rooms give the building a wider bar-and-events life.

A new name for an established room

The venue began in 2001 as Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, operating from a converted workshop; Barworks ran it until 2013. Mothership Group acquired the site from MAMA in 2015, then relaunched it as Colours in September 2019, reshaping the programme around gigs, club nights and creative events. That earlier room had already provided early-career dates for artists including Florence + The Machine, Foals, Grimes, Mumford & Sons and Vampire Weekend, according to the Musicians’ Union. The 2019 conversion also linked Colours’ programming with East London peers Village Underground and EartH, placing fresh artists alongside established acts playing smaller bills.

How the room works now

Colours books a broad live-and-club programme spanning new music, disco, drag shows and raves; its own venue material highlights nu jazz, hip-hop, soul, electro-pop and R&B. For performers, the Musicians’ Union listing seeks local support acts for touring bills and headline artists able to draw 150-plus people. Concert audiences enter a fully standing Live Room, with step-free access after the Main Bar and accessible toilets nearby. Expect the focused feel of a 300-person floor, plus a private bar, raised stage and reactive lighting above it.
