KulturA. is a cooperative cultural venue in Liège’s pedestrian Rue Roture, with two concert rooms holding 200 and 120 people. Its defining feature is the building’s previous life as Cirque Divers, a cabaret, gallery and performance hub whose archives now sit with the Province of Liège. The present-day operation gives the address a fresh purpose: dozens of local associations and collectives share the spaces and shape the programming.

A Roture rebirth

The story begins in 1977, when Michel Antaki helped establish Cirque Divers in Rue Roture, inside a former banana-ripening facility. The project developed as a cabaret-theatre-gallery, presenting concerts, performances, exhibitions and debates; it closed for good in 1999. The building later reopened as Tipi and then Live Club, before its cultural use again came under pressure through a sale.

A local coalition answered in 2015. Cultural real-estate cooperative DynamoCoop bought the property through crowdfunding, while the 13 Rue Roture association brought together around 40 Liège collectives to rebuild its activity across three floors. Renovated and renamed KulturA., the venue officially opened on January 20, 2017. That rescue supplies the venue’s clearest character: a concert space run as shared cultural infrastructure, with its programming dispersed among participating groups instead of concentrated in a single promoter’s office.

The room today

For concertgoers, KulturA. offers the productive unpredictability of collective booking. Rock and indie sit alongside techno, hip-hop, metal, jazz, noise, house, reggae, slam and stand-up; Court-Circuit describes the agenda as open to every style and scene. The two performance rooms sit on the ground floor, each with its own bar, while an upstairs gallery and shared workspaces widen the building’s cultural traffic. Expect a compact, multi-use setting where bills can move between bands, DJs and hybrid arts events without changing addresses.
