Marquis Theater

Marquis Theater is a 450-capacity concert room at the meeting point of downtown Denver and Five Points. Its defining feature is scale: a low-capacity club whose 2015 overhaul brought in new sound and lighting while enlarging the bar. That combination makes the Marquis best suited to shows where the band and crowd share a tight, direct frame, with Marquis Pizza part of the house identity.

A comeback with a first-night marker

The Marquis reopened as a concert venue in 2006, when Soda Jerk promoter Mike Barsch moved his operation from Rock Island into the Larimer Street room. Ticketmaster dates the venue’s opening to the same year and identifies Bayside as the first band to play its stage, while an early local review describes a small, bar-centered room with a slight terrace on the main floor. Those accounts place its opening squarely in Denver’s underground-rock circuit, built around close quarters and touring bills.

A second turning point arrived in 2015, with an extensive remodel that upgraded the sound and lighting systems and expanded the bar. Live Nation assumed booking and operations in February 2018, joining the Marquis with Summit Music Hall under the company’s Denver operation. The change explains the venue’s current role: a professionally booked small room with the physical character of its earlier club years still intact.

The room now

Live Nation has booked the Marquis since 2018, and the programming reaches from rock, punk, and metal into hip-hop, pop, country, R&B, and indie bills. Expect an intimate, bar-forward environment: the main floor includes a slight terrace, and the 2015 work improved the sound and lighting while giving the bar additional space. The house also operates with an in-room pizza identity, useful for a full evening built around a single set of doors.
