About Hi-Dive

Hi-Dive is a 260-person independent club in Denver’s Baker neighborhood, built for close-range sets instead of distant arena viewing. Its concrete advantage is scale: a 16-by-16-foot stage sits three feet above the floor, placing performers and crowd in the same compact bar room under an 8,000-watt concert system. The venue has operated under the Hi-Dive name since 2003 and presents local and touring acts year-round.

Three names, one South Broadway room

The building’s music history predates Hi-Dive. It operated as rock venue Seven South through the 1990s, then became Quixote’s True Blue, a Deadhead-oriented bar, from 2001 to 2003. On November 19, 2003, Matthew LaBarge and Allison Housley bought the Quixote’s space and reopened it as Hi-Dive, drawing on their Brooklyn clubgoing experience while building a calendar around Denver acts. Booker Ben DeSoto joined within the first three months and expanded the program toward touring artists alongside local bills.

A second defining date came in 2012, when LaBarge and Housley sold the venue to employees Matty Clark and Josh Terry with a group of investors. Clark had worked at Hi-Dive from 2007, so the handoff kept the room in the hands of people who had run shows, worked the bar, and participated in the surrounding scene.

The room on a show night

Hi-Dive remains musician-owned and operated, with a booking approach that puts local and touring acts on the calendar year-round. Rock anchors the identity, while alternative, indie, and hip-hop shows also appear in the mix. Expect a bar-first club setting: the venue opens daily at 4 p.m., runs happy hour until 7 p.m., and hosts mostly 21-plus events, with selected 18-plus dates marked individually. The raised, square stage and dedicated front-of-house console make the small-room presentation the central feature.
