Trix

Trix in Antwerp is a 1,100-capacity standing music center whose main hall has a 12-metre-wide stage and stepped public floor, a combination designed to keep the view open across a full room. Its distinctive proposition reaches beyond the concert bill: alongside the Zaal are a Club, Bar and Café, plus rehearsal rooms and a recording studio, giving a show night the feel of a working music house.

Built from rehearsal rooms into a full concert house

Trix opened in 2004 as Antwerp’s new music center, following a JES youth-work music initiative that had already tested a digital studio for hip-hop, drum’n’bass and techno. Its early offer combined rehearsal facilities, recording, masterclasses and performance opportunities. The major structural change arrived in 2009, when Trix merged with the adjacent Hof Ter Lo concert hall. That move brought the former Hof Ter Lo hall into a multi-room operation and rapidly expanded the center’s scale. In 2020, pandemic restrictions produced a brief reinvention: chairs borrowed from De Roma turned the main room into “Trix theater.” A further closure limited that seated series to 10 concerts for 1,496 people, a compact snapshot of a venue built to adapt its rooms around artists and audiences.

The room today

Booking in practice follows an open-genre, young-talent-first policy, with underground-minded programming alongside established names. Expect indie, rock, metal, hip-hop, electronic music and adjacent pop forms across the rooms. For a main-hall show, the wide stage and tiered audience area are the practical draw: sightlines hold up away from the front. The café opens for concertgoers from 6 p.m. and serves as the pre-show meeting point, while the building’s eight basement rehearsal rooms and producer studio keep musicians moving through the place outside showtime.
