Madame George is a 200-capacity live-music lounge in New York City, built underground as a 4,400-square-foot cocktail room. Its clearest distinction is the setting: jewel-toned banquettes and armchairs occupy a richly dressed main room, while pressed-tin ceilings, antique patterned glass, Edison bulbs, and crystal sconces frame the bar. This is a seated, drinks-forward place for hearing performers at close range, with the décor carrying as much personality as the playlist.

A speakeasy plan, then a music room

Madame George began with a 2021 commercial plan for 45 West 45th Street. Broker Masonre described a 4,341-square-foot lower-level lease for a new speakeasy, alongside the larger Valerie gastropub operation in the same building. The lounge opened in October 2022, presenting a New York-themed cocktail program under Beverage Director Marshall Minaya and drawing its name from Van Morrison’s 1968 song “Madame George.” Those facts explain the room’s particular mix of reference points: vintage lounge design, city-history drinks, and a name borrowed from a long-form, atmospheric piece of music.

The room’s music identity has sharpened around a recurring Monday feature, Broadway Night Off. The venue bills it as an up-close showcase for Broadway performers, and its current schedule gives the series a 7:30–10:30 p.m. slot each Monday. That recurring cabaret-style booking makes Madame George a useful choice for theater-district visitors seeking singers and a live band after curtain call, while the rest of the week expands the bill beyond Broadway names.

How the room works now

Madame George programs live music Monday through Saturday, with Broadway Night Off anchoring Mondays and later evening sets filling the remaining nights. The calendar leans toward indie, jazz, R&B, pop, folk, and singer-led performances. Expect lounge seating, a Library area, Red Lounge tables, and the main bar instead of a conventional standing-room concert hall. Full-venue private events reach 200 guests, while regular seating accommodates up to 140, so reservations suit the room’s dinner-and-drinks rhythm.
