About House of Yes

House of Yes is a Bushwick, Brooklyn nightclub and performance space with an advertised 650-person standing capacity. Its calling card is scale built for spectacle: the main room has 26-foot ceilings, giving aerialists, dancers, DJs, and variety-show casts room to work above the crowd as well as in front of it. Concert-goers should expect a club environment where performance forms part of the evening’s architecture.

Three homes, one high-flying idea

Kae Burke and Anya Sapozhnikova began House of Yes in 2007 as an artist collective in a Troutman Street loft. A 2008 fire pushed the project into a former East Williamsburg ice house, where it operated as a circus theater and creative-event space from July 2008 through August 2013. The next break came through a rent dispute: House of Yes said its Maujer Street landlord sought to double the rent, prompting a final run of shows that August and a search for another permanent base.

A new lease at Wyckoff and Jefferson arrived in January 2014. The team converted a former laundromat, raising the roof for aerial work and adding a bar, restaurant facilities, rigging, lighting, and a larger stage area. The rebuilt House of Yes opened its inaugural full performance season in December 2015 with a holiday spectacular, setting the template for a room where theatrical production and dancing share the bill.

The room today

House of Yes programs dance parties, variety shows, and theatrical events, with electronic and Latin nights prominent in its current identity. Artists can submit acts through the venue, which says its theater presentations sometimes spotlight emerging performers. The main room is a multi-space, high-ceilinged club with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, three full-service bars, and a courtyard; capacity and the performance-heavy format make it best suited to audiences comfortable circulating through a busy, standing-room night.
