About Cross Roads Garwood

Crossroads is a 200-capacity music venue, bar and restaurant in Garwood, New Jersey, serving the Union County stretch between New York City and the Shore scenes. Its defining scale is intimacy: in June 2022, a Brian Fallon solo date became a sold-out, 18-song surprise reunion set by The Gaslight Anthem. That kind of artist-to-room proximity gives this small club its particular pull.

A supper club that became a rock room

Lee Frankel opened The Crossroads in August 1996, converting Garwood’s former Loading Dock restaurant into a New Orleans-style jazz and supper club. Frankel, then 22, had lived in New Orleans while attending Tulane and brought its jazz, blues, funk and Cajun-food inspiration to North Avenue; the opening plan paired live music with a full lunch-and-dinner operation. That food-and-stage combination remains central to the venue’s identity.

The sharpest modern chapter came on June 18, 2022. Fans had arrived for the final night of Fallon’s three-show solo run, then guitarist Alex Rosamilia, bassist Alex Levine and drummer Benny Horowitz joined him for The Gaslight Anthem’s first performance in four years. The group played 18 songs, including “The ’59 Sound,” “Great Expectations” and a Nirvana cover, two months before its planned reunion tour began.

What the room offers now

Crossroads invites performers to submit directly through its booking form, while its calendar leans indie, punk-adjacent and rock alongside comedy and occasional seated presentations. The operating model is built for an evening that can start with a meal and end at the stage: there is a full bar and restaurant, plus a main floor, outdoor patio and private speakeasy available for events. At 200 capacity, it suits listeners who prefer a club-scale show over an arena-style production.
