Brooklyn Paramount in New York City

About Brooklyn Paramount

Brooklyn Paramount is a 2,700-capacity Downtown Brooklyn hall built inside a 1928 movie palace, where a former college basketball court now gives way to a standing-room concert floor beneath a French Baroque interior. The draw begins with the scale: this is a mid-size live room with gilded plasterwork, a vast ceiling and a wraparound balcony, designed for loud contemporary bills while retaining the visual drama of its cinema era.

A cinema palace, a court, then a return

Paramount Studios commissioned Rapp & Rapp in 1927 to build the venue as a sound-era movie palace; Brooklyn Paramount opened on November 24, 1928, with Dorothy Arzner’s Manhattan Cocktail and a stage revue. The theater welcomed Duke Ellington and his orchestra in 1931, an early signal of its live-music role. The curtain came down in 1962, when renovations removed the marquee and auditorium seating and Long Island University put a basketball court in the room. Its next concert-era opening arrived on March 27, 2024, following a multiyear restoration by Live Nation and Arcadis; Damian and Stephen Marley played the first show. The conversion preserved ornate plasterwork, which viewers now see from floor and balcony.

A big general-admission room

Live Nation runs the 2,700-capacity room as a multi-genre concert venue; its calendar moves through pop, R&B, alternative, rock, indie, metal, electronic and Latin bills. Most events use general admission, with each event page setting the configuration. Expect an expansive main floor plus second-floor GA standing room, with VIP balcony sections and member boxes available for selected shows. Seven bars are spread through the venue, and Ella’s Lounge adds a separate entrance and dedicated bar for upgraded guests.
