About De Kreun (Wilde Westen)
De Kreun is Wilde Westen’s 600-capacity concert hall in Kortrijk: a purpose-built, modular standing room beside the TRACK music centre. Its first-floor balcony gives the compact hall a second viewpoint, while the main floor keeps audiences close to a 12-by-6-metre stage. The space was designed for amplified music, from guitar-led club bills to electronic sets, and it remains the organisation’s home base in the city.
From Bissegem youth club to TRACK mainstay
De Kreun began in 1981 as a youth club in Bissegem, on Kortrijk’s edge, then sharpened its focus on music and grew beyond its original room. In 2006 it made an interim move into Limelight, a former arts-centre building in central Kortrijk, while plans advanced for a dedicated hall near the conservatory. The current venue was built between 2007 and 2009 as part of the TRACK music-centre masterplan, giving the club a 600-person room designed for a standing audience and amplified sound. In late 2016, De Kreun joined Festival van Vlaanderen Kortrijk to create Wilde Westen, bringing concert and festival programming under one organisation from January 2017. That merger explains the double name: De Kreun remains the room, while Wilde Westen runs the wider musical operation.
The room on show night
Wilde Westen programs a wide spectrum across pop, rock, jazz, contemporary and classical music, plus sound art; De Kreun supplies the loud, standing-room setting within that mix. The hall also accepts concert, party and event hires, and bands can book it for PA rehearsals. For viewers, the useful details are simple: the whole main hall is standing, the bar sits at the back of the room, and the first-floor balcony offers an elevated perspective. The ground floor has wheelchair access and an accessible toilet.
