Roschinsky’s is a DJ-driven St. Pauli night bar on Hamburg’s Hamburger Berg, with a reported full-house capacity of up to 200 people. Its defining feature is the round counter at the centre of a compact party room, where drinks service, DJs and dance-floor movement meet in the same tight orbit. The scale suits late-night sets with communal energy, with weekend hours running deep into the morning.

A counter built for the DJ era

Karl Roschinsky opened Roschinsky’s in 1989, creating one of the earlier modern bars on Hamburger Berg. The venue’s early identity centred on DJs and good drinks, replacing the jukebox-and-cheap-beer formula that had shaped many Kiez bars. A 2019 account traces a key handover to 1996: Gerwin Meier then owned the bar, and Frank Hoffmann took it on through an initial two-year agreement. That account also records two ownership changes by the 30th-anniversary year, plus a later shift toward cocktails as neighbouring bars adopted the DJ-bar format. In May 2020, pandemic rules cut the room to 41 indoor guests, compared with crowds of up to 200 in normal full-house conditions; the contrast gives a useful sense of the bar’s usual shoulder-to-shoulder intensity.

The room now

Roschinsky’s promotes event bookings, private location use and cocktail courses through its own site, alongside its regular nightlife operation. The musical lane stretches across dance classics, soul, rock and modern R&B, while its current calendar also leans electronic and hip-hop. Expect a compact, standing-room-forward layout: the circular bar is the visual anchor, the dance floor carries the action, and weekday sessions add table football and a slower social pace. This is a bar first, with the DJ set functioning as the night’s engine.
