Dôme (Spiroudome)

Dôme, formerly Spiroudome, is Charleroi’s 6,300-seat indoor arena, a concert-scale room shaped by its life as Spirou Basket’s home court. Its defining quirk lies in the construction history: the 2002 concrete dome rose above the operating La Coupole, allowing basketball fixtures to continue below while the enlarged venue took shape. For a showgoer, that produces an arena setting with sports infrastructure and substantial event flexibility.

A dome built around a working court

Inaugurated on 5 April 1992 as La Coupole, the hall was intended for a Nick Bollettieri tennis academy. That plan ended quickly; Spirou Basket became central to the building’s purpose, and the original room proved too small for the club’s ambitions. In 2002, Charleroi replaced it with the multi-purpose Palais des Sports du Pays de Charleroi, known as Spiroudome. Builders placed its hard-shell structure over La Coupole as games continued—a rare feat of venue conversion that gives Dôme its literal layered history. The arena received an international test in 2006, hosting the Fed Cup final, where Belgium’s Justine Henin won both singles rubbers against Italy while an injured Kim Clijsters watched from the stands; Italy ultimately captured the tie. A 2019 rebrand shortened Spiroudome to Dôme, alongside a technical refresh and a renewed focus on concerts and events. The change also moved the venue toward a fuller cultural diary.

The room today

Concerts share the programme with sport, trade fairs, conferences, dinners and corporate events, so booking favors adaptable productions alongside touring artists. Its music listings encompass pop, rock, folk, classical, R&B and indie, plus comedy and dance presentations. The main hall covers 3,000 m² and can split into 300–1,000 m² sections; organizers can hire it whole or in part. On concert nights, expect arena-scale seating and ancillary spaces including lounges, restaurant, Martini area and Château. Accessible facilities and ample nearby parking suit a large-room visit.
