About Yorckschlösschen
Yorckschlösschen is a 120-seat Kreuzberg music pub in Berlin where the stage sits within arm’s reach of the tables. Its everyday bar setting, regular live bands and large summer garden make a show feel closer to a crowded neighborhood dinner than a formal club date. The musical center is jazz and blues, joined by soul, swing, funk and rhythm and blues; the room has presented live music for decades.
A pub that became a musicians’ meeting point
Yorckschlösschen opened as a pub in 1895 inside a residential building on Yorckstraße; its “little castle” name came from the house’s ornamented stucco façade. Food and beer had been served there since 1885, placing the room among Berlin’s older taverns. During the 1960s it was a middle-class corner pub. Artists increasingly made it a meeting place during the early 1970s, a transition that shaped the venue’s cultural role in Kreuzberg. Olaf Dähmlow established several weekly live concerts during his long spell as proprietor; he held the venue until 2005 and resumed as owner in 2006. The program settled around traditional jazz, swing and Black rhythm and blues, with regular music now reaching back over 35 years.
How the room works now
Shows unfold in a pub layout: tables crowd around a central stage bordered by a wooden railing, so proximity comes easily while sightlines vary seat by seat. Reserve a table a few days ahead when a seated view matters; the house asks concert guests to arrive by 7:30 p.m. Entry is free, with bands supported through a collection and a suggested contribution of at least €5 per person. The booking leans toward predominantly local players, and the shaded summer garden provides the outdoor alternative in fair weather.
