Trompete

Trompete is a roughly 250-person club at Lützowplatz in Berlin’s Tiergarten district, with additional winter-garden space and a summer garden. Its defining feature sits below an exhibition house: the dance floor occupies the basement of Haus am Lützowplatz, a cultural building whose front house began as a 19th-century residence. A trumpet in a glass case points visitors toward the entrance, setting up a venue that feels tucked into the square instead of announced across it.

A basement with a long cultural memory

The front house began in 1873 as a neo-Baroque residence designed by Wilhelm Neumann. Bomb damage in 1943 destroyed the Verein Berliner Künstler library; reconstruction brought the first postwar exhibition in 1950, and the building took the Haus am Lützowplatz name in 1955. Its 1960s basement restaurant-bar, Domizil, became a major part of the house’s public identity through cabaret performer Wolfgang Neuss, who appeared there over 700 times.

Trompete followed decades later. Haus am Lützowplatz dates the relaunch of basement operations with the club to 1999 and names actor Ben Becker and Tresor co-founder Dimitri Hegemann as founding partners; Berlin.de gives the public opening as April 2000. The result is a clear lineage: a cellar shaped by cabaret and cultural programming became a small-scale party room launched by a film actor and a central figure in Berlin techno.

The dance-floor brief

Current programming centers on drinks-to-dance nights: Thursday begins with drinks at 7 p.m. and dance at 9 p.m.; Saturday runs from drinks at 9 p.m. to dance at 11 p.m. Thursday operates without table reservations, while Saturday reservations run through the club site. Listings describe dance classics and party music, with Friday live music, while Berlin.de characterizes the music as event-dependent. Expect one basement room with leather seating, a cocktail bar, winter-garden space, and a seasonal outdoor garden: a close-quarters setting for DJ-led nights and occasional live bills.
