About Tresor

Tresor in Berlin is a techno club listed for 1,001–2,000 people, operating inside the former Mitte combined heat-and-power station on Köpenicker Straße. Its clearest distinction is physical: a 30-metre tunnel leads into the basement Tresor floor, where massive concrete walls and a low ceiling create a compressed, industrial listening environment. Three connected floors give a single night sharply different spaces for dancing, resting and changing pace.

A vault survives by moving

Tresor began at midnight on March 13, 1991, when a basement door opened at Leipziger Straße 126: the vault of the former Wertheim department store, on the former Berlin Wall strip. Tresor Records began that year, while early visits by Detroit figures including Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and Drexciya forged a durable musical exchange between Berlin and the United States.

A preservation dispute ended the Leipziger Straße chapter in 2005. In 2006, Dimitri Hegemann found a prospective home in the disused Mitte power station, built in 1961 and closed as a heat-and-electricity plant in 1997. Tresor opened its new rooms there in 2007, carrying the vault’s vocabulary of steel, concrete and enclosed pressure into a far larger industrial building.

How the rooms work now

Programming centers techno, with house, electro and experimental electronic music distributed across the rooms. The basement Tresor floor provides the hard, driving core; the upper Globus floor separates dancefloor and bar, with a five-metre ceiling. The club’s current entry policy places final admission with the door even for advance-ticket holders, so a ticket serves as a purchase of access to the queue and event, subject to house policy. Expect the venue’s character to come from movement between its tunnel, basement and upstairs floor.
