Soda Club

Soda Club is a multi-floor dance venue in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg, with a publicly unlisted capacity and a 1,300-square-metre footprint in the former bottling station of the KulturBrauerei. Its distinguishing feature is choice: several dance floors, lounges and VIP areas operate inside one piece of preserved brewery infrastructure. This suits visitors who value a busy, social club night with room to move between sounds instead of a single-stage concert format.

A New Year’s Eve start in a former brewery

Soda’s story begins with the much older complex around it. Chemist and pharmacist August Heinrich Prell took over a beer cellar on the site in 1842; the Schultheiss brewery grew there across the late nineteenth century, and brewing ended in 1967 after the machinery had worn out. The brewery complex gained heritage protection in 1974, preserving an industrial ensemble that later became available for cultural use. In the 1990s, redevelopment involved failed sales, a contested planning process and a major restoration project whose groundbreaking came on September 16, 1998. Soda arrived at the end of that transformation: it opened in the former filling station on December 31, 1999, with a large New Year’s Eve party. The result gives a mainstream nightlife operation a setting of brickwork, courtyards and former production rooms instead of a purpose-built club shell.

Floors first, then a lounge

Today, Soda books party programming across R&B and Black music, dance, electro, disco-house, salsa and merengue, with dance classics also central to the offer. The format is floor-led: Berlin’s official club guide describes several floors and wide dance floors, while Soda lists Crossover, Malle Hits, Millennium, Urban Dance and HipHop floors among its reservable lounge areas. Seating ranges from six- and ten-person lounges to a 30-person VIP lounge; the venue also promotes a bar-and-cocktail experience. Expect a club designed for circulation and group occasions, with music choice and lounge space carrying as much weight as close-up artist presentation.
