Soda Biergarten (Kulturbrauerei)

Soda Biergarten (Kulturbrauerei) in Berlin is an open-air concert and party court within the former Schultheiss brewery complex. Capacity changes with configuration: Soda Club’s six rooms and terrace are listed for 100–200 guests, while the Kulturbrauerei courtyards used for outdoor formats range from 1,000 to 4,000. Its defining feature is scale with a brick-industrial setting: six courtyards and 20-plus buildings frame a summer show as part of a working cultural compound.

Brewery bones, cultural reboot

In 1842, chemist and pharmacist August Heinrich Prell took over a beer cellar on Schönhauser Allee; Jobst Schultheiss acquired the operation in 1853, giving the brewery its enduring name. Expansion followed, and architect Franz Heinrich Schwechten’s plans shaped the ensemble from 1878. Brewing ended in 1967, landmark protection arrived in 1974, and TLG began a major restoration in 1998. One decisive New Year’s Eve followed: Soda Club opened on December 31, 1999, inside the former bottling station, with a large party. That conversion supplies the Biergarten’s central contrast: an outdoor stage and social space enclosed by surviving industrial façades whose earlier uses remain legible in preserved signage.

A courtyard built for the party calendar

Soda Biergarten’s calendar favors accessible, social programming: brass afternoons, blues, soul and acoustic-rock series, nostalgia bills and party-led outdoor events. Inside, Soda concentrates on DJ formats across five dancefloors—R&B, house, electro, millennium pop, crossover and techno—so Biergarten shows can work as a daytime or early-evening lead-in to club nights. The outdoor format uses a performance stage in the courtyard; large-screen events use a 36-square-metre LED screen. The operator also accepts private, corporate and school-group event inquiries, making this a flexible entertainment space alongside its concert use.
