Silent Jazz Bar is a limited-seat listening-room venue in Berlin’s Schöneberg, with capacity framed by the house simply as “limited seats” and reservations encouraged. Its defining proposition is music at room volume: three short live sets share the evening with album listening, cocktails, and, on selected nights, the headphone-based Silent Series. Expect the scale of a small bar with the attention level of a close-up performance.

Built for the space between rehearsal and gig

Public venue accounts identify jazz professionals Urs Johnen and Alexander Wienand as the founders. Their aim was a working ground between a polished concert and open improvisation: a place where musicians could test ideas before an audience while retaining the feel of a gig. An opening year is absent from the venue and city accounts available for this profile, yet the founding premise remains unusually clear: quieter sound as a condition for detailed listening.

A documented pressure point came on December 2, 2025, when saxophonist David Beecroft wrote that his Blue Monday residency had paused temporarily amid general noise complaints; he added that the team was seeking a solution. That episode puts the venue’s low-volume identity in practical context. By August 2026, the official program included Silent Series events with optional headphone use, extending the room’s emphasis on concentration into an immersive format.

Tiny stage, open-door ethos

Jazz and improvised music anchor the bill, with current strands including hard bop, contemporary and Latin jazz, tango, piano recitals, acoustic sessions, and singer-led shows. The booking approach favors direct personal contact: the bar asks prospective participants to come in and discuss the concept, while conventional agency inquiries receive little attention. A tiny stage keeps players close; an adjoining Listening Lounge uses high-end speakers for records, talks, and release events. Cocktails, wine, beer, coffee, cakes, and snacks support the long pauses between sets. Entry is donation-based, with a suggested €5 culture contribution per set.
