About Ritter Butzke
Ritter Butzke is a Berlin-Kreuzberg electronic-music club with an unlisted capacity, set inside the Butzke-Werke at Ritterstraße 26. Its defining feature is the setting: a late-19th-century, five-storey industrial courtyard complex with ornate brickwork, repurposed for dancing across former work halls. Expect a night built around changing rooms and vantage points, far from a single-stage concert-hall format.
A factory, a forced pause, a licensed return
The site began as an Etagenfabrik, or multi-storey factory, built in 1893–94 and enlarged in 1897–98 to plans by architect Georg Lewy. The Bernhard Joseph fittings factory commissioned it; a 1926 merger brought F. Butzke & Co. into the complex, whose manufacturing continued on Ritterstraße until 1997. Ritter Butzke opened in two former work halls in 2007. Its opening chapter carried real risk: an anonymous criminal complaint led to the closure of the unlicensed club, followed by a few months operating at the former Karl Marx Party School building by Köllnischer Park. In October 2009, it returned to Ritterstraße 26 with official approval, establishing the address that remains its home.
The room after dark
Programming centers on ticketed DJ bills in techno, house and electro, with international names sharing the schedule with local artists and crew-led concepts. Individual events carry separate advance tickets; the venue’s ticket terms make sales final. The layout runs to as many as three floors, including a summer floor with an open-air feel, while the factory courtyard and decorated dance spaces give the club its sense of movement.
